Empowering #Girls in #ICT: #Airtel’s Inspiring Session for #Alaba Oro #Students

In a move to inspire the next generation of female leaders in technology, Airtel Nigeria’s Women Network hosted an enlightening session for students from Alaba Oro Comprehensive Senior High School, Ajegunle, marking the International Day of Girls in ICT on April 29th, 2024. This initiative is part of Airtel’s ongoing commitment to mentor women and encourage their ascent to global leadership positions, challenging stereotypes and bridging gender disparities in the process.

The event was spearheaded by Kemi Ariyo, the IT Director of Airtel Nigeria, who highlighted the critical role of influential female figures in advancing the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The session aimed not only to educate but also to ignite a passion for the myriad possibilities that the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector offers.

Ogo Ofomata, the Director of Enterprise at Airtel Business and the President of the Airtel Women Network, engaged with the students, emphasizing the 2024 theme of Leadership for International Girls in ICT Day. “True leadership is about self-direction and taking the necessary steps towards your goals. Our mission is to nurture young girls and women to become the future programmers, coders, and designers, leading the way in the ICT industry,” she conveyed.

A standout moment was the insightful talk by Kemi Ariyo, who stressed the significance of tech knowledge in tackling global issues. “We live in a tech-centric world, where technology is intertwined with every aspect of our lives. By embracing diligence, strategic thinking, and participating in internships, you can carve a niche for yourself in the tech space. Technology is a tool that transcends sectors, and mastering it can empower you to become a problem-solver in this digital era,” she explained.

Phanindra Nichanametla, the Chief Financial Officer of Airtel Nigeria, echoed the company’s ethos ‘A Reason to Imagine’, instilling confidence in the students about Airtel’s dedication to fostering a culture of positive imagination. “Take this message from today’s event: Airtel is here to expand your horizons and offer you the chance to dream bigger,” he encouraged.
