A university lecturer, Dr Joseph Odok, has called on Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State to refurbish the dilapidated state library in the center of town.

In a statement issued Thursday morning, the University of Calabar lecturer said so far, the people are proud of Otu’s early actions to restore hope in governance, his carriage and wide consultation to bring in the best hands to work with him.

“While your focus and vision is well appreciated I wish to burden you more by appealing that you give a face lift to the Cross River State library that have become an eye sore and embarrassment to behold.

“This is more so to improve reading culture and improve education in the State,” he said.

He said it is public knowledge that he inherited huge liabilities and paucity of funds but priority must also be given to the state of educational infrastructure.

The government of Prof Ben Ayade was slammed for abandoning the famous edifice and allowing it to decay despite public outcry and demands for library resources by students and academics.
