Provide good leadership for unity in body of Christ – Niger CAN chair urges leaders

Niger State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Most Rev Yohanna Dauwa Bulus has called on co-ordinators, secretaries and other officials of the association to provide good leadership to ensure cohesion in the body of Christ in the state.

Speaking while declaring open a two-day capacity building and leadership seminar for leaders of Niger State CAN in Minna, he said one major challenge facing Nigeria and the Church is poor leadership.

According to him: “One major challenge facing our dear country is mainly centred on poor leadership at all levels. This has created the problems we are all facing as a nation and in our dear state ranging from insecurity, economic recession, famine and so on. The Church is not left out of this challenge of poor leadership, hence the need to address this menace that has already become a monster.”

He said further: “Leadership at all levels is service to be rendered to the people through sacrifice, commitment, dedication, discipline, accountability and, of course, by good examples. Where the above ingredients of good leadership are lacking then the opposite are the consequences we see in our society and churches today.

“More importantly, to study the revised constitution, especially the grey areas, this is our guide towards achieving our set objectives as Christians coming together under one umbrella”.

On the theme of the seminar,” Speaking With One Voice,” he explained: “As leaders at different levels, we must speak with one voice otherwise we are going scatter the flock that is entrusted to us.”

Most Rev Bulus said though the leaders may have different opinions on certain issues, the general good of the body should be paramount, especially what will benefit the majority of the people.
