Naira redesign: PDP chieftain tasks EFCC to beam searchlight on corrupt civil servants, politicians

Following Central Bank of Nigeria’s decision to redesign naira notes, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Dr Mustapha Aboki, on Thursday urged the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) to beam searchlights on corrupt civil servants, politicians and highly-placed criminals who have stocked Nigerian money in their bedrooms.

DAILY POST recalls that the Central Bank of Nigeria had a few weeks ago announced the redesigning of the notes of the three highest currency denominations of N200, N500 and N1,000.

Reacting in Kachia, Kaduna, on Thursday, Dr Aboki noted that the action of the CBN to redesign the Nigerian money was timely as many criminals have stocked Nigerian money in their various mansions across the country, awaiting the 2023 general elections.

He appealed to the Central Bank governor, Godwin Emefiele and the Federal Government, not to waste time in carrying out the redesigning to forestall looters of Nigerian currency converting stolen money into foreign currency overnight.

” I appeal to the Central Bank Governor to expedite action on the naira redesign so that those who stocked our money, could be the loser in the end. I also called on the EFCC and other anti-money laundry agents to beam their searchlights on foreign exchange spots and other sensitive areas since those criminals are finding ways to change our currency to foreign currency,” he submitted.

Dr Aboki further called on Nigerians to assist security agents by reporting those with excess money in their vaults and hiding places for immediate questioning and arrest.
