Oni, in search of second term ticket as governor

Oni who lost out in the recently conducted PDP governorship primary election to the winner, Bisi Kolawole, was said to have reached out to APGA for an opportunity to contest the governorship election using their platform.

Segun Oni, between May 29, 2007 and October 14, 2010, was a member of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP). In 2014, he defected from the PDP and joined the then newly formed opposition party, All Progressives Congress (APC). He returned to PDP after the 2019 general elections and now he has joined APGA, still in search of a second term ticket as governor.

It was gathered that after some exploratory meetings between Oni’s associates and the leadership of APGA, a deal was struck to admit the ex-governor into the party’s fold and subsequently grant him a waiver to enable him to fly the flag of APGA.

APGA’s Vice Chairman (South West), Samson Seun Olalere, reportedly led Oni’s associates to a meeting with the national leadership of APGA on Tuesday this week.
