Body of day-old-baby found hanging on barbed wire of a fence in Niger
The body of a day-old girl has been found hanging on the barbed wire fence of an abandoned building in Minna, the Niger State capital.
The baby girl’s body was discovered by residents in Dutsen Kura, a Hausa community on Thursday.
Witnesses reportedly wept profusely as they saw the blood-stained body hanging on the wire.
Neighbours refused to tell reporters who lived in the abandoned house or who owned it.
They all claimed to have seen the chilling sight only after a teeming crowd drew their attention to it.
Some said the building had been abandoned for a long time.
District Head of Dutsen Kura Hausa, Ahmad Tukura said only a heartless person could have carried out such an act.
“Why couldn’t the mother just put the baby on the ground? Someone would have picked her and taken care of her or she could have been taken to the orphanage. Killing an innocent child like this is unacceptable,” he said.
He said that the community was making efforts to identify the culprit.
