How Osun APC chairman, Famodun, was quoted out of context by a blogger – Kola Olabisi. Practitioners of social media journalism have been enjoined to painstakingly, meticulously and pragmatically be in tune with authentic details in their daily accomplishment of their professional tasks in the interest of inculcating peace in the society.

A senior journalist in Osogbo, Kola Olabisi, made this remark while reacting to a story written on the Osun State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress(APC), Prince Gboyega Famodun, in Osogbo, the Osun State capital on Monday.

Olabisi who detested the way the headline of the story was changed by a blogger said it sent a wrong signal to both the electorate and the politicians as the said headline was at variance with the body of the story.

He stated further that the headline of the story that went viral was also a source of embarrassment to whom the story was credited to.

Olabisi hinted that at no time or point did Prince Famodun give any directive that no current chairman should seek for re-election as it’s flagrantly reflected in the headline of the story.

The senior journalist who is the Media Consultant to the APC state party chairman disclosed that all professions have both written and unwritten code of operation, adding that when the headline of a story is different from the body of a story, it means something is fundamentally wrong with such story.
In his words: “The rule in the traditional newsroom is to first of all read a story before a suitable headline is arrived at. Any other approach different from this may attract professional schism with its attendant gross misinformation of the society.

“I am going to save the situation by not mentioning the protagonist blogger but a passionate appeal to such blogger to rewrite or maintain the original headline in order to save the story headline from deliberate distortion of facts”.

The Media Consultant disclosed further that what Prince Famodun was saying was that the council chairmen and their councillors should not desert their duty posts all in the name of seeking assistance for another term in the state capital.

“I want to believe that such rewriting of the headline of the story that turned out a monumental error was not in any way intended by the blogger to deliberately embarrass Prince Famodun and subsequently misinform the society”, Olabisi stated.
