Update! Alleged removal of Unilag Vice-Chancellor, Oluwatoyin Ogundipe {Video}. Sequel to previous NEWS on removal of Unilag V.C.

It was recently gathered that at an emergency meeting held on Thursday, 13th August, 2020 at about 8:30am, Senate received a report from one of its representatives on the Governing Council.

The report which states the proceedings of the Council meeting held on Wednesday 12th August, 2020 which culminated in the purported removal of Professor Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe, FAS the University of Lagos Vice-Chancellor.

*_The Senate noted that viz;_*

I. The action by the Council constitutes a violation of Section 3(8),(9), (10) and (11) of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Amendment)Act, 2003 on the removal of the Vice-Chancellor of any Federal University in Nigeria.

ii. It was neither invited to participate nor did it participate in any Joint Committee of Council and Senate as required by law.

iii. It received the news of the removal of the Vice-Chancellor from office from the Social media.

iv. The purported appointment of an Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos breaches section 3(8) (13) of the act.

v. Due process was not followed in the purported appointment of the Acting Vice-Chancellor as the Senate was neither informed nor invited to forward it’s recommendation to the Council.

vi. It’s functions and it’s powers have been completely appropriated by the Council in breach of the law.

*_Senate Resolved to;_*

i. Rejects the purported removal of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe, FAS

ii. Reaffirms its confidence in Professor Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe, FAS as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos.

iii. Passes a vote of no Confidence on the Governing Council of the University of Lagos, led by Dr. Boland Please Babalakin, SAN and calls on the Visitor for *Immediate dissolution* of the Council.

iv. Rejects the appointment of Professor The optimus Omololu Soyombo, as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos.
