Ogunstate: GNI discretely moves to contest for 2023 Gubernatorial seat.Prince Gboyega Nasiru Isiaka, the Ogun state’s perennial gubernatorial candidate of Peoples Party of Nigeria, PPN, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and African Democratic Congress, ADC in 2011, 2015 & 2019 respectively, who has early this year defected to the ruling party, All Progressive Congress, APC has set in motion secret plans to again take a shot at the governorship seat of the gateway state.

It was gathered that following his defeat last year, he hurriedly said he wasn’t going to contest for governor in 2023, but his discreet moves in recent times have shown otherwise. Rumours of his governorship bid have suddenly gone viral within Ogun state government quarters and among political commentators in Abeokuta.

Isiaka, who was the pioneer managing director of Gateway Holdings under the administration of Otunba Gbenga Daniel, between 2003 to 2011, at a meeting with leaders, critical stakeholders and close allies of his socio-political enlightenment group, The Believe Movement, TBM weeks back in Abeokuta disclosed that he will challenge the governor for the ticket of the party.

According to an insider, who said he’s quoting GNI, as Isiaka is fondly called. The Imeko born accountant turned politician reportedly said;

‘With the abysmal performance of the incumbent governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun in handling state matters & his disdainful lackadaisical attitudes towards political actors, considering the certificate brouhaha that affected the joint ticket of APC in Bayelsa and the disqualification of Obaseki in Edo by the APC, I will put myself forward to rescue our state and save our party.”

Succinctly put, our source said the discreet meeting held at the private residence of Chief Joju Fadairo; former Ogun PDP chairman’s residence.

Aside the discreet meeting, we can also report that a building owned by GNI’s younger brother, Alhaji Wasiu Isiaka in Abeokuta has also been branded for GNI’s new political move, and a secretariat has again been established to propagate the new agenda. One Olootu Dipo Sofowora is the acting coordinator of the new movement across the state.

To actualise the 2023 ambition, reports have it that the two House of Assembly members loyal to GNI have commence antagonistic dispositions to the administration of the Abiodun-led government. While it is also undisputable that there are cordial consultation between the GNI camp and that of immediate past governor, Ibikunle Amosun.

Kayode Balogun; a social commentator based in the United Kingdom, UK who reacted to the news of GNI planning to contest again in 2023, said it is the natural trademark of the ‘transactional politician’.

‘That’s his trademark, he is a transactional politician, he is a consistent betrayer and a man feeling fat on the plight of the people of Ogun west. He is out to betray the governor, I just hope the governor won’t be deterred. He did same to OGD, same to Kashamu and even Baba Obasanjo. So Gov. Dapo Abiodun should just remain focused’.
