Financial autonomy, governors of 36 states finally bow to the executive order 10, after a futile battle they saw the need and have accepted for the other arms of government to be financially independent.

Our medium gathered that, Governor Kayode Fayemi and his colleagues where left with no choice than to agree and accept the executive order because President Buhari was not ready to rescind the order.

On Tuesday, June 9, it became apparent that the federal government was not ready to bow down to the pressure from governors over financial autonomy for the state legislature and judiciary, though the federal government had hinted on the possibility of rescinding its decision after meeting with the governors through their chairman, Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state,earlier.

In a subsequent move,the attorney general of the federation as well as minister of Justice Abubakar Malami, stated clearly there was no going back on the executive order 10, granting approval for financial autonomy, to the other arms of government.
The minister clearly established that the governors have accepted the principle of separation of power among all the tiers of government, hence, the governors of the 36 states have finally admitted the constitutionality of the state legislature and judiciary.

The minister further said presidency and the states governors will fashion out the modalities of implementing the directives which will see the budge of the other two arms submitted separately going forward.
Justice Abubarkar Malami, Speaking through his special assistant on media, Umar Jibrilu Gwandu, on Tuesday he explained that contrary to the speculation, the governors did not halt the implementation of the order, as the executive order will help entrench the principle of democracy till the grassroots.

In the intervening period of time, Governor Fayemi met with the president on Monday, June 8, and disclosed that “President Buhari agreed to delay the gazetting.” He said the 36 governors have reached a consensus to recognize the for the state lawmakers and the judiciary system to have financial autonomy.
